PUNCH LINES

A punchline is the point of a joke or humorous story Syn: gag line, tag line, laugh line, joke, laugh - a humorous anecdote or remark intended to provoke laughter; "he told a very funny joke"; "he knows a million gags"; "thanks for the laugh"; "he laughed unpleasantly at his own jest"; "even a schoolboy's jape is supposed to have some ascertainable point" that produces the desired effect.

A punch line (or punchline) is the final part of a joke, comedy sketch, profound statement, or story, usually the word, sentence or exchange of sentences which is intended to be funny or to provoke laughter or thought from listeners. Few punchlines are inherently funny out of context.

Punch lines generally derive their humor from being unexpected.

It is possible that the final line of a joke is called a punchline because the performer is expected to place stronger emphasis on it, or "punch it up" vocally.

Maybe the best thing to do is just stop trying to figure out where you’re going, and enjoy where you’re at.

“I don’t care.”
